Ann Niu's Painting Installation
by The Art House @The Opposite House
Location: Art House @ The Opposite House
Artist(s): Ann NIU
Date: 16 Sep - 16 Oct 2011

Having developed her calligraphy skills from a young age, Ann graduated from the Fine Arts College of Shanghai University before touring and studying in Japan, Korea and the United States. The diversified and multi-cultural experience has helped Ann to forge a unique method of expression in her paintings. Similarly, her works are also a reflection of her candid and outgoing personality, with dynamic and expressive brushstrokes blending together to form a profusion of colours. Through the complexity of her brushstrokes, the artist's portrayal of her characters and their associated moods can also be discovered: men and women exhibiting joy; anxiety; loss and anguish alongside a myriad of other complex emotions. The works of Ann Niu span the realm between abstract and reality, combining the exquisite brushstrokes of traditional Chinese calligraphy with the realism of the innermost world of her contemporary characters.

Anthony Ross, Area General Manager of Swire Hotels, states: "Ann’s works are full of colour and passion and show Chinese calligraphy in a very contemporary light. They suit our space beautifully and we are delighted to showcase them.”

Born in Shanghai, Ann Niu travelled and studied in Japan, Korea and the United States. She has held a number of solo exhibitions as well as participated in collaborative exhibitions in both China and abroad.  Her works have been collected and displayed by organisations such as Adidas; China Post, HSBC Private Bank, the National Museum of Singapore and Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, as well as by private collectors from Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Netherlands and the United States.
