"Slow pace" is similar to tai chi in Chinese traditional culture, which is to practice the internal force through natural, flowing and continuous movements with controlling of the breathing and directing of the flows of "chi" and to give a quick and precise fatal attack in an instant. "Making force from a borrowed force" or "deflecting a forceful thrust with a tiny amount of force" are both the wisdom of tai chi.
There are a group of such artists of "Slow pace" in the practice of contemporary art. From the emergence of idea to the completion of a work, they spend a long time to continuously improve their work projects and to look for more appropriate materials with constant tries and rethinking patiently. They turn thinking and creations and the living environment into the integrity of "Slow pace" so that to practice, grope and find wiser ways and methods to realize their transformation of contemporary art practice and traditional cultural spirit.
It is inseparable from learning the concept of "Slow pace" to putting it into practice. The artists have creatively applied and deconstructed the methodology of the unity of knowing and doing, following the method that "doing" is the beginning of "knowing" and "knowing" is the achievement of "doing", to further interpret the essence of "Slow pace" and its present significance in the creating practice.
Given this, Beijing Li-space has gathered the works of 16 artists including Cong Lingqi, Ding Yi, Guo Gong, Li Tianyuan, Shao Yinong, Xiao Yu, Sui Jianguo, Zhang Zhenyu, Su Xinping, Xu Ruotao, Yang Ming, Yang Xinguang, Yang Maoyuan, Wang Yiqiong, Zhang Yu, and Zhang Yue, which has formed the exhibition "slow pace: a kind of contemporary art", opening at 16:00, 22nd September (Saturday) of 2012.
