Artist(s): GONG Jian, YANG Xinguang
Date: 1 Jun - 20 Jul 2012
Boers-li gallery | 博而励画廊 is pleased to announce the opening of two solo exhibitions by artists Yang Xinguang and Gong Jian, opening May 31, 2012.
Yang Xinguang’s solo exhibition, “Violence without Mercy”, will be the third solo exhibition held by Boers-Li Gallery for this young artist. Yang Xinguang is a prominent representative of the younger generation in the world of Chinese contemporary art; his creations bypass direct description, metaphor or critique of life in society and political reality, fulfilled rather through plain form. The title of the exhibition, “Violence without Mercy” rests upon this meaning- there is no eloquence in the use of force – calling attention to the core qualities in the exhibition: crudely blunt, sharp, a touch dangerous -carrying a primitive vitality.
“Nothing Is Important”, is a solo exhibition by Gong Jian showcasing 30 works of art dating back to 2010. Throughout the past few years, Gong Jian’s fundamental style has been marked by the repetition of characters and phrases painted onto the canvas, through constant reapplication and permutation, the characters are completely obliterated between the brush strokes and colored paints, to the point that the painting is purely a textured color panel. These works of Gong Jian, created through the layered repetition of certain key words and phrases, ultimately obstructs from view the words themselves.
