Landscape works by Xu Longsen at Beyond Art Space at the Art Stage Singapore
by Beyond Art Space
Artist(s): XU Longsen
Date: 12 Jan - 16 Jan 2011

From January 12, 2011 -16 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore was held the "Art Stage Singapore" Art Fair, and Beyond Art Space had two booths and showed different stages of the landscape works of Xu Longsen, where "Hua Mountain No.1" a huge landscape painting was hanging down from the roof. The whole work is like a huge landscape scroll, with a majestic landscape approaching, giving the audience to feel the physical and psychological shock and it depicts the Chinese landscape style.

Xu Longsen’s oversized landscapes are an eye-opening discovery against the historical backdrop of contemporary Chinese painting. This is not only due to the unprecedented vastness of his sheets, his outstanding skill with ink, or the degree of difficulty inherent in this huge display; even more importantly, within his monumental ink arrangements, the pattern, format, and connotation of his brushstrokes alone result in a fundamental change. Xu Longsen has revived the essential characteristics of Chinese painting—forceful and unrestrained, candid and broad-minded.

The works in the Exhibition

The works are big scale and the microscopic ink characteristics of these two are very different and miraculously brought together the landscape into being, it is amazing. However, Xu Longsen’s "large scale work" is not only about the large scale, but it is within the spirit of the Chinese landscape vast mind. Stunning visual effects on the back, is Xu Longsen’s persistence of landscape to adhere to Orthodoxy, as well as to the spirit of Chinese culture, a staunch defender of the main purpose.

Beyond Art Space at the same time explores the next great wave of China’s culture and art. In our information age, we can freely exchange information with foreign culture. As the west is increasingly enchanted with eastern culture, the Chinese started to contemplate upon the real meaning of Chinese culture. As an important component of intelligence and wealth, art has always been driving the transfer of power. It will transcend regionality and nationality and adopt a new pattern shared by all mankind. One of the focuses of Beyond Art Space is eastern spirit and eastern philosophy that have been influenced by the west. Beyond Art Space innovatively inherits eastern and western culture and tries to build a spiritual home for us to share our understanding or culture, both eastern and western.
