"Collaboration" - Turbinegeneration
by Imagine Gallery
Location: Imagine Gallery
Date: 10 Jun - 26 Jun 2011

The turbinegeneration project, produced by Tate Modern Museum, sponsored by the Unilever Series, and under the patronage of UNESCO, brings together schools, galleries and artists from around the world to form international partnerships.
Together they create artwork inspired by themes taken from The Unilever Series that are relevant to the young people’s own experiences and cultures.
This partnership between young people from different cultures and different contemporary contexts is developed through an online exchange of artwork and ideas.
This year the project’s theme is "Collaboration".

Three kindergarten classes of French International School in Beijing are invested in this project and will exhibit their artworks at Imagine Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Beijing, who has collaborated as well on 2010 turbinegeneration project.
The proposed works highlight the Chinese and French cultures in joining, juxtaposing or matching them.
Such creations are about meeting two types of architecture, others using Chinese techniques (calligraphy, paper cut) in a French cultural register, others incorporating Chinese elements in a French context.
The confusion of the viewer will then highlight the role of diversity in Society.
The viewer will thus have to walk around and ask: 'Is it China or France? "
The media used are varied (painting, gluing, molding, audio system, models, and drawings).
The goal is an artistic and aesthetic collaboration of both cultures and thereby to place the children in their biculturalism.
