Dutch mixed media visual artist Maartje Blans’ unusual paintings, some with a highly sculptural nature are for the first time presented at Imagine Gallery as a whole rich and varied body of her work. The different layers in Blans’ work produce a dynamic interaction of materials, lines, light and shadows, transparency and space that challenge the boundaries of mixed media painting and installation art.
Maartje Blans (1975) is a Dutch mixed media visual artist currently based in Beijing. She graduated in Textile Arts and Art History at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, and received her Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design at the State University of New York. Maartje Blans’ work has been featured globally in prominent venues devoted to contemporary art such as Art Beijing Contemporary Art Fair (2010 and 2011) and “Dialogue”, a group exhibition organized at the Dutch Cultural Centre in Shanghai and part of the official activities of the Dutch Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
