Chang Art is pleased to present La Boite de la Memoire (A Box of Memory), works by Ouhi Cha. The exhibition features Cha's most recent large-scale installation works, drawings, and paintings for the first time in China.
Ouhi Cha (born 1954), a promiment Korean female artist, moved to Germany in 1981 and since there she has been working actively in Europe, mainly around Berlin. With the theme "Mast-Ship-Odyssey", Cha creates variations of "the story of longing, travel, memories, and life" of a long-endured nomadic beijing.
The large installation to be presented at this exhibition is an extension of the lamp, entangled cords, and images made up of coarsely woven hemp from Venice in Venice - Flying Dutch (1995) and the poetic space layout of The Platform of Venice (2002).
"Her works is a paean to imagination... it is strong because it leads fragility to dancing and has a delicate power to give them a sound presence."
-- Dr. Joachim Satorius, German Academic Exchange Service
"The bags have no color, neither gradations of shades, like felling under the spell of alchemist, existing as shadows or mirage... To return to purity through art, to figure out the real us through harmony, to retrieve the nature of any form, this is Ouhi Cha's aesthetics."
-- Yulhee Kim, Director of Chang Art
