Photography is vision through a single eye. Passing through the lens, this singular eye cannot record the world which we usually see with our own two eyes. Rather, it should make use of industrial civilization, and also see through the development of industrial civilization to rediscover the world. Contemporary photography is like the all-seeing eye in the hands of the Buddha, using universal thought to shed light on human suffering. In this era where photography is accessible to all, it brings about a visual wisdom offering both reflection on society and self reflection (that is, to ask ourselves). Perhaps this is the “concept” behind photography.
