The Three Shadows Photography Award is an annual juried competition that aims to showcase the new faces of contemporary photography in China. It was launched in March 2008 with the opening of the exhibition Outward Expressions, Inward Reflections and continued with the Points of Impact exhibition in 2009.
This year, Three Shadows received 209 submissions for the juried competition. From this pool of applicants, the Three Shadows curatorial team selected twenty young photographers to participate in the 2010 Three Shadows Photography Award exhibition. Each selected artist uses different approaches and techniques to give new meaning to Chinese contemporary photography.
On April 17th, 2010, a panel of international photography critics and curators will select the recipient of the Three Shadows Photography Award from the exhibited semifinalists. The 2010 Jury Members are: Eva Respini (Associate Curator, Photography Department, Museum of Modern Art, USA), Francois Hebel (Director of the "Rencontres dʼArles", France), Karen Smith (Photography Critic and Curator, UK), Kotaro Iizawa (Photography Critic, Japan), and RongRong (Founder of the Three Shadows Photography Art Centre, China).
The winner of the Three Shadows Photography Award will receive an 80,000 RMB cash prize. The Photography Award Ceremony will also include presentations of the Shiseido Prize for Best Female Photographer and the Tierney Foundation Fellowship.
The Three Shadows Press will publish and distribute a catalogue to accompany the exhibition.
