Shi Wei was born in Hubai, China in 1965. Shi Wei is known for his ambiguous and vague oil paintings, in particular the skinny Beautiful Women Series. In his oil paintings, women are depicted skinny and scrawny in erotic poses which places the meaning of beauty under scrutiny. Are these women beautiful and happy? Or are they suffering for the price of vanity? These are just some of the varied social questions the artist posits.
