UCCA at Art Basel Hong Kong 2014
by Ullens Center for Contemporary Art
Location: Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 15 May - 18 May 2014

The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) has been invited to participate in the second edition of Art Basel Hong Kong. UCCA's exhibition space is located on the first floor concourse near entrance 1D of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. For this edition, UCCA will bring exclusive limited edition artworks by Liu Wei, Xu Zhen, and Zhang Enli, whose new UCCASTORE collaborations will be presented to the public for the first time. Other artworks include pieces by some of the most acclaimed young Chinese artists working today, including Mei Le, Qu Guangci, Ren Junhua, Shi Jinling, Wu Junyong, Xiang Jin, Xu Min, Yang Maoyuan, Yuan Beibei, Zhai Liang, Zhao Yiqian, and Zhou Siwei.

UCCA Limited Editions are initiated as part of the UCCA and UCCASTORE brands. Maintaining China's leading program of limited editions, UCCASTORE is a long standing supporter of outstanding Chinese contemporary artists and designers. UCCASTORE believes in free, open, and unrestricted observation of the world, that people should see themselves as visionaries instead of just consumers. For its Limited Editions, UCCASOTRE works extensively with many of China's top contemporary artists. Inspired by the motto "Bring Art into Your Life," UCCASOTRE hopes to explore a way of life that is suffused with contemporary spirit.

For Art Basel Hong Kong 2014, UCCA Limited Editions has selected several top-quality works. In the "Purple Air" print series, Liu Wei combines futurism and a digital visual language in an aesthetic experiment of contemporary urbanism. He is interested in the ever-changing conditions of the city, revealing the degradation of the environment through visual symbols. The artist employs a divers palette and geometric patterns to show the innate contrasts and implications of the city's appearance and inner workings. He uses the language of computer graphics to transform something dry into something beautiful, inspiring viewers to see the multidimensionality of contemporary life.

Zhang Enli's "Four Seasons" series of works on paper examines broad topics through minutiae. Time is the interface of painting and the speed of his actions. This group of wondrous pieces confidently reveals the unique quality of the still-life works he has been undertaking since 1998, tableaus filled with relaxation, demonstrating the power of thinness and negative space.

UCCA Limited Editions offer new possibilities for collectors and fans of Chinese contemporary art. UCCA is proud to select these exclusive collaborations for both their artistic and collection value. Art Basel Hong Kong 2014 offers a wonderful platform for discerning collectors and visitors to learn more about UCCASTORE's vanguard program of Limited Editions.
