Red Gate Gallery is pleased to present Mongolia : Mongolia, a group exhibition where two unique artistic journeys intersect. For the first time at Red Gate, three young up-and-coming talents from Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia will celebrate and critique through their artworks the Mongolia of yore and today. From ancient nomadic philosophy and cultural heritage to the social fabric of contemporary Mongolia, Khurelbaatar Batbaatar, Batzorig Dugarsuren and Tsulbaatar Odgerel offer fresh insights to the Mongolian contemporary art scene with their distinct voices. Embedded in the painterly rings of concentric abstraction, Batzorig Dugarsuren conveys the ideas of reincarnation in an eternal continuum. This spiritual foundation upon which the Mongolian Empire of Ghengis Khan is founded is also echoed in the paintings of Khurelbaatar Batbaatar whose canvases reinterpret the linguistic and historical developments. Taking inspiration from the streets of Ulaan Baatar, the confronting images of Tsulbaatar Odgerel completes the chronological circle with his personal narration of the unflinching realities in the capital today. Extending the Mongolian connection is a distinct group of Chinese artists who spent their formative years in Inner Mongolia. Today, Qi Mengguang, Wang Lifeng and Wu Rijin are all mature and established artists in their own right but they also share a common personal history by growing up in Inner Mongolia. By showing their works side by side with their younger Mongolian counterparts, Qi, Wang and Wu are acknowledging their artistic parallels as they render homage to rich and diverse cultures that have helped shape their individuality and have been instrumental in their personal artistic development.
