Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest
by Swire Properties
Location: ArtisTree
Artist(s): Gareth BROWN
Date: 1 Dec - 12 Dec 2009

Long-time arts patron Swire Island East continues to bring an eclectic art and cultural programme for public’s free enjoyment. This winter, from 1 to 12 December 2009, the community’s dedicated art venue ArtisTree will be hosting renowned photographer Gareth Brown's photo exhibition Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest as the kick-off programme of Swire Island East Urban Dance Festival.
Together with a star-studded line up of professional dancers, Brown took on a journey to explore Hong Kong. While Island Eastern Corridor, High Island Reservoir, Waterfall Bay, Mount Davis Battery, Cha Kwo Ling and Kai Tak Fire Station may not be the most popular spots to visit for local residents and an even more unlikely venue for dance performance, Brown and the dance performers considered the cultural and historical significance of these sites as they seek to explore the relationship with the  environment at large. Each location has its own story expressed through movement captured in a site-specific dance. The result is a powerful visual journey through unexpected locales of modern infrastructure and historic sites; some living and some slowly decaying.

The exhibition comes to a finale on the event day (12 December) of the Swire Island East Urban Dance Festival. Choreographer Christina Jensen will work on Brown's photographs and incorporate them as part of her site-specific, flowing dance piece, adding a new dimension to both the photo works and the dance.
