Clothing from the Prehistoric Time - Four (2007) by TANG Grace Ying Mui

Wire coated with white plastic variable

When mothers no longer made clothings for the children
Mothers don't need to cook
They don't need to raise their babaies
Coz they are forced to pay maids to take care of all these

This project is to explore the city life from the perspective in the pre-historic time. We all have different imagination about the pre-historic time. Most people will think it was a barbaric period. The artist sees it as the time where there is freedom other than this well advance, prosperous city. It has always been a priority in society to take care the four elements for surviving; they are clothing, food, shelter and transport. The artist uses these 4 elements to explore the way of living and the system in the society at our modern age. The artist has constructed a virtual figure, a prehistoric man living in the city. She can walk in the prehistoric world in her dreams. When she wakes up, she will gather materials from this prosperous, advance city according to her memory. From the scenes of her dreams, she will try to mimic the skill to reconstruct these objects. The objects gathered by the pre-historic man will be displayed and audiences are asked to find out the meaning of it. Is it a call from our ancestors asking us to look at our modern lives?
