In the last two years Tate Modern in London had its own (Cildo Meireles, Beatriz Milhazes and OSGEMEOS), MoMa in New York (Carlito Carvalhosa and Jac Leirner), the Maison Européenne de la Photografie in Paris is currently presenting a survey of Brazilian photography, followed by Berlin and Rome. In the summer of 2012, Somerset House in London will feature art and design from Brazil through a range of exhibitions and displays across the site. It seems like the perfect timing for the nation who will be hosting the upcoming World Cup in 2014 and anticipating the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio.

“Among the BRIC countries, nobody talks about Brazilian art until recently. NOW is the time the world recognizes it especially in Asia. The substantial amount of artwork being delivered each day sums up to impressive figures seducing several different museums and institutions around the globe, eager to present Brazilian names and be a part of the movement. It is a market you simply cannot ignore”, says director Jürgen Abergas.

Back in Hong Kong, FABRIK joins forces with São Paulo art label Projeto Rabbit featuring an exhibition of 7 bright and most talked about Brazilian artists hailing from different cities. The collaboration will showcase a thorough selection of works exploring various platforms such as painting, collage, photography, installation and digital art. The exhibition proposes an interesting mix of young artists along a more established set, ranging from different scales and different cities (living in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Montréal and Amsterdam), perspectives and points of view.

The exhibition will open on May 15, coinciding with the ARTHK 2012.
