Mel Ramos, born July 24, 1935 in Sacramento, California, has experimented freely with realist and abstract art forms. His work can also be described as super-realism.
Ramos is one of the significant artists in the Pop Art movement. He enjoyed great success and critical acclaim as an adventuresome artist with the creativity and sense of humor it takes to remain on top.
Mel Ramos first received recognition in the early 1960s. Ramos, along with other artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and James Rosenquist, produced art works that celebrated aspects of popular culture as represented in mass media.
Ramos is famous for his 1960’s paintings of Pin-up calendars and magazines.
