Chiho AOSHIMA biography | artworks | events

Born 1974 in Tokyo, Chiho Aoshima is a CG artist who creates a fantastical and erotic world inhabited by young women, insects, reptiles and zombies, using the computer software 'Illustrator'. She made her debut in 'Tokyo Girls Bravo' curated by Takashi Murakami and shot to stardom. Since then she has exhibited her works at many venues inside and outside Japan, including the collection of the 'Superflat' (a touring exhibition in the USA, including The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles) in 2001 as well as the 'Lonely Planet' exhibition (Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki-ken, Japan). Since 2003 her works have regularly been shown in Blum & Poe, Santa Monica, where Takashi Murakami also regularly exhibits, establishing herself overseas as well as in Japan. Her latest works 'City Glow' and 'Paradise' was used to fill up all the advertisement space in the Union Square subway station in New York City. She is one of the most talented young artists promoted by Kaikai Kiki led by Takashi Murakami, hotly talked about as a new generation female artist, and certainly one to watch out for in future.
