Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery of Hong Kong serves as the co-organiser of “A Fashion, Or the History?”, the latest solo exhibition of Chinese artist Xue Song, which is organized by and will be held at The Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, Japan in November 2010.
Xue Song was born in Anhui, China in 1965. He is one of the leading representatives of contemporary Pop Art in China. Unorthodox pictorial images made of collages from the disintegration and reconstruction of small fragments of burnt printed materials and fortified by vibrant colours is his own original language, by which he depicts various contrasts and dialogues, either between different facets of China and their drastic modernization in the last hundred years, or in the course of the interaction between China and foreign cultures, with or without sarcasm, but always full of the tolerance and benevolence in the Chinese tradition and the delicacy and elegance of the Chinese intellectuals.
In “A Fashion, Or the History?”, around thirty pieces of the representative works of Xue Song in recent years will be presented. These works clearly reflect the intricate relationship between social changes and art creation and provide a platform for a meaningful study of the origin, characteristics and development mode of Chinese Pop Art.
The opening of the exhibition at The Ueno Royal Museum, 1-2 Ueno-Park, Taito-Ku, Tokyo, Japan, will take place on November 13th, 2010. The artist will be in attendance.
