The works of Lee Jae-hyo are made from a process consisting of dedicated design and complex composing, sculpturing, grinding and refining. However, all of them, without any exception, are displaying the innate beauty of the natural materials. While his wood pieces are assembled into dazzling curves, with which various futurist forms in hyper-modernist style are drawn, nevertheless, each piece is still embroidered with growth rings which have been everlasting for many millennia, and which remind the audience of the common pulse, hidden deep in their subconscious, they are sharing with the universe.
Therefore, the art of Lee Jae-hyo is built upon a typical oriental spirit. Under this kind of belief, man accepts his identity as an integral part of the universe, and he strives to contain himself and control his desires, in a pursuit of a unity and harmonious co-existence between him and the universe. At the same time, Lee Jae-hyo demonstrates extremely effectively how, on the basis of a mutual respect between man and the nature, man can continue to develop his civilization and, also, with grace.
His works are made of the assembly of a large number of units of the ingredient, thus, the respective images of the individual units, which are similar to each other, appear repetitively in the same piece of work, resulting in a very compelling visual tension. In their overall structures and forms, we always find minimalist geometric lines, which are as natural as if they were created by God, and which are rich in hyper-modernist imagination.
