Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery is pleased to present Vision of a Civilization, Chi Wing Lo’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, featuring his wooden and bronze sculptures and a series of drawings.
Chi Wing Lo conveys his vision of a civilization through a growing series of sculptures which he has conceived twenty years ago. The drawings from his first solo exhibition, Landscapes and Objects, Stuttgart 1992, continue to be a significant reference for his creative work as an architect and designer. After twenty years, he returned faithfully to these drawings, adhered to their spirit and form, and realized them afresh as sculptures.
From drawing to sculpture, Lo wants to heighten the poetic tension between known and unknown, real and imaginary, familiar and enigmatic. The exactitude of ambivalence and the metaphorical play of similarity and unfamiliarity that touches these mysterious objects incite our curiosity, and invite us to ponder on the common understanding of poetry.
The balance of the opposites, the transcendence of the impossibilities, the clarity of reverberation, the vigor of critical thoughts... Lo densely weaves all these together to form the reverberation, the vigor of critical thoughts... Lo densely weaves all these together to form the fabric and structure of a civilization which he has always been longing for. Lo is also like a keen observer and a patient investigator, who records the discoveries of a lost but found civilization levitated between reality and dream, and invites us to explore the possibilities in the imaginative realm.
