Born in Huangshi, Hubei in 1963, Wei Guangqing was graduated from the Department of Oil Painting of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. Currently he is a Professor and the Dean of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. Wei Guangqing is considered to be one of the leading members of Chinese Pop in the New Wave Art Movement of China. He hopes to capture the spirit of directness and vitality in Pop art. Yet his Pop art expresses a visual story and inner connotation of Chinese culture, and reflects the interrelated relationships of culture, politics and history throughout the ages.
