Connoisseur Contemporary presents its debut show of Chinese contemporary artist Hui Xin with a new series of works created specially for the show. Hui Xin’s very distinctive work features hyper-realistic images of Oriental and Western origin as well as traditional Chinese motifs airbrushed onto the canvas to become almost superflat graphic-like posters with an advertising effect.
His paintings may be seen as kitsch-like and artificial to some, but it is this aspect and quality of his work that makes it instantly attractive and popular. He takes classic oriental and western images and “dramatically" transforms them into surrealistic scenes. He places great emphasis on the immediate visual aesthetic and intentionally creates blissful and beautiful scenes for his viewers; preferring to express his understanding of traditional cultures within a modern context, in a simple and direct manner.
Hui Xin’s art is viewed as a different kind of beauty/art because of the composition of his images to depict his subject matter and the airbrushing technique. The whole visual effect gives his viewers the same pleasure and joy that the artist derives from painting. Not someone who is bothered by the whole contemporary art trend, Hui Xin is an artist who has simply turned his hobby into a profession, and paints only what pleases him.
