Join us for a refreshing and spectacular visual experience as we present an exciting group exhibition of our Chinese contemporary artists such as Xu Ruotao, Zhang Fazhi, Chan Yu, Li Shurui and Guo Hongwei, whose works were very well-received during our participation in the recent international art fair at Scope Basel 2009. New works by these artists and some others will be showcased together at the same time to form a visual display that is absolutely astounding and literally dazzling!

Xu Ruotao was born in 1968 in Shenyang, China.  His paintings appear as abstract as their meanings, yet they cannot be deemed as such.  Xu’s new works reflect his hidden fascination with space as a child; created by layered and conflicting lines that heighten the illusion of spatial depth and which ultimately form complex patterns.

Zhang Fazhi was born in 1976 in Chengdu, China and was a graduate of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.  He is known for his images of young men and women donning red scarves that symbolize idealism and youth.  In his new works, Zhang has moved from the political theme to something more personal and easily identifiable as the growing pains of an adolescent. He uses his characteristic red scarf which has been recognized as his "logo" and portrayed a young man being distracted from his studies by the views in his neighbours' windows in “Fantasy of Adolescence”.

Chan Yu and Li Shurui were born in Chongqing, China in 1982 and 19881 respectively.  They represent the first generation of single-child families in China and their art is conceived from a spontaneous idea that often expresses their individual state of mind and the energy of youth.  Chan’s new works explores the multiple perspectives and personalities within famous iconic figures such as Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain, while Li’s works reflect her obsession with lights and this is the first time she has painted in a super-wide format in a colourful composition which allows a fresh perspective of her subject matter.

Guo Hongwei was born in Sichuan, China in 1982 and is also a graduate of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute.  We have been representing him since he started his artistic career and are just as proud of his achievements and artworks.  In line with his opinion that one’s memory consists of marks and traces left behind by events in our brain, his new works are mainly monochromic portraits of himself and his family members or childhood friends, with one particular piece titled “My Sisters” painted with colours for the first time.
