Born in 1954 in Romania, Dorina Mocan moved to Sweden in 1981, she has become one of the most respected artists in the country. Defined by her unique style, Mocan combines realistic portrayal of subjects and imaginary quality of scenery in her paintings. Her mastered skills with fine brush strokes depict a realistic young girl figure in the "Childhood Wonderland" open arms relaxing on a white bench. Looking closely, we can see the details of her hairs flowing down on her shoulders. Mocan cleverly blends the stamp printing technique on figure cloth sometime the background, which often shifts our eyes from the three dimension figure towards to the elegant patterns with single colour tone intertwining the background and foreground.
With details description and multiple elements in the painting, our eyes are kept busy drawing from one corner to another. The girl's eyes and serious facial emotion lead us to the open arms smiling Jack-in-the-box who she seems to be communicating with. A childlike drawing also open arms at the other end of the bench, the resonance align three figures on the bench seem telling us some story here. Behind the bench, the vivid cloud is gradually merging into a ram, a symbol of strength, pointing towards the lower part of the painting where a white house is located in the distance, again the reality and imagination meets on the canvas. Such dreamlike composition, we could not help to possibly think that the bench actually is flying in the sky. As always, Dorina Mocan loves the quality of the imagination from child spirit and innocence that we often forgotten while growing up becoming more mature.
