Chan Yu was born in Chongqing, China in 1982. At the age of 26, he already has an impressive list of exhibitions to date; having shown in the Macdonald Stewart Museum in Guelph University, Canada; Saint Tropez, France; and in Asian cities such as Beijing, Chongqing, Guizhou, Shanghai, Taipei, Jakarta and Singapore. His most recent works form a series of colourful, iterated images as a result of the artist’s creative conceptualisation, some of them based on his childhood toys, and others on more iconic figures or commercial items. Presented in both a playful and academically intellectual style, these images represent and explore the multiple personalities to each image, the social context they are associated with, as well as the deeper meanings behind them. Chan Yu is being sought after by galleries from around the world, and his works have also been auctioned in the secondary market.
