Koru Contemporary Art is delighted to announce the return of British born glass artist Galia Amsel. Now based in New Zealand and influencing the contemporary glass movement through her technically challenging works.
In this body of work Amsel continues to expand on themes from previous works, namely the exploration of tension & balance.
Galia Amsel comments:
“My ideas are based around capturing moments in movement & rhythm and exploring tension & balance.”
Through her study of tensity Galia Amsel creates a sense of drama with her pieces balanced on edge - the possibility of tipping becomes a carefully controlled experiment weighing the risks between pushing the boundaries of the medium and losing a work. The scale of her sculpture provides a breath taking experience when seen together in this solo exhibition.
Her works are in several prestigious collections including Victoria & Albert Museum, London, Corning Museum of Glass, New York and she has been the recipient of several awards and grants including the Nelson Woo Scholarship.
