Simone Cenedese belongs to the latest generation of Murano master glassmakers. The distinguishing trait of this younger group is their renewed interest in the time-honored Venetian glassmaking tradition after the long identity-crisis period that afflicted the artistic and glassmaking world. For the last ten years, however, these gifted young people have been re-discovering and reviving the exceptional technical heritage of which they, as master glass makers, are the repositories and spokesmen on the contemporary art scene. Murano has then once again brought forth a new generation of glassmakers that well embody the artistic future of this island. Amongst the few very talented young masters now active in Murano, and who will hopefully open the way to many more the name of Simone Cenedese stands out for the enthusiasm this young man brings to the projects he shares with designers and artists, putting his outstanding workmanship and brilliant technique at the service of a personal taste and aesthetic vision that are growing day by day. This is the stuff a master glassmaker is made of - he must be the sensitive interpreter of those who do not possess the specific manual skills of a Murano glassmaker and so require a collaborator able to shape the red-hot glass. Yet, at the same time, he must be able to autonomously create works that clearly show the imprint of his own personality.
