Sketching street scenes is her way of appreciating the building structures that are confronting her. Kiyoko Yamaguchi has been doing just that wherever she goes.
Trained as an architectural historian and worked professionally as a university instructor, Yamaguchi has depicted numerous Hong Kong street scenes since she started living here eight years ago.
Her paintings are usually rendered in simplistic outlines and then touched up with light pastel colours. She says that her aim is to express a simple happiness around old buildings or streets in the midst of contemporary changes.
Yamaguchi received her bachelor degree in Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and a doctorate degree from the Kyoto University majoring in history of architecture and urban planning in Southeast Asia.
