AA thread can be viewed as a linear string of linking dots while the life of a person can also be read as a collection of remnants of memory.
Gao Zengli's paintings are his intimate memories or the lingering thoughts that refuse to leave his mind. He reconstructed these fragments of memory on his canvases, painting over broken pieces of porcelain wares or on hemp sackcloth that were once used to transport rice.
The media that he used tell as many stories as the images on his paintings, that are the dialogues with himself as well as with his native country.
Born in 1964, Gao trained both in National Academy of Fine Arts in Shandong, China and the National Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, France. He has lived and worked in Paris since 1997 and recently in Hong Kong as well.
