Ever since artisans of the Yuan Dynasty fired their cobalt blue motifs on white porcelain vessels, the colours of blue and white have become a seamless artistic combination and popular worldwide. As a matter of fact, this colour mishmash has long existed in our mother nature only that we have taken it for granted – blue sky and white clouds.
Embedded in these two colours are feelings and emotions of elegance and tranquillity. Water Poon, who is renowned for his mesmerising photography works, has been exploring the use of these two colours in his paintings for years.
Following the exhibition of the “Running Water Mountain High” series in 2008, Poon will show his latest paintings in the “Lotus” series in the up-coming Blue and White exhibition at Art Beatus Gallery.
Poon uses colour zones of varying shades of blue and light brush works of white to anchor gracefulness in his works. There is no superfluous use of colours and everything is done in its minimal.
