Will It Still Rain Tomorrow?
by Art Beatus
Location: Art Beatus
Artist(s): Alex SHOU
Date: 10 Jun - 28 Jun 2011

The oil paintings of Alex Shou bear much resemblance to Chinese ink paintings. Shou focuses much of his efforts in capturing mood and atmosphere onto his canvases rather than just recording actual imageries, shapes and forms.

All paintings of this exhibition are under titles of nostalgic romanticism as the artist wishes that his works will bring back some particular memories as well as paying his personal respect to bygone years.

Shou was born in 1980 and graduated from the Fine Art Department of Shanghai University in 2003. He continued his pursuit in oil painting in the Melbourne University and received his Masters degree in Fine Art in 2006.

Working within the grey scale and with a tint of brown colour, Shou’s depictions are mostly about rainy days. The emotional feeling grasped, the weather recorded and the shades of grey fit well in evoking old memories thus making other colours superfluous.

In the unsettling art scene these days where most contemporary paintings seem to have lost their bearing, Shou’s works are indeed welcoming signs. They take viewers on an emotional trip and aim at rekindling the passion of disillusioned art-lovers.

“Will It Still Rain Tomorrow?” exhibition starts from October 10th until October 28th, 2011.

Artist will be present in the Opening Reception on June 10th, 2011, 6pm - 8pm.
