Artist's Statement

I am like an irrepressible child, capable of boundless possibilities, when I enter my studio. I thrill at the process of making marks and I relish the meandering that my medium proffers. My path is smoothest when I am willing to fall. On this solitary journey, I simply cannot allow any mislay of direction, as every turn promises an adventure and each step brings me closer toward home.

The ideas for “Tangles and Ties” began when I witnessed the progress of my friend’s heartbreak.  Her subsequent struggles and her unyielding passion for life continued inspiring my works.  These paintings are my roadmaps for exploring into the diverse and complex nature of the human experiences.   Each work is seeded by a revelation, and cultivated by percolation and integration.  The interactions of the cords and strings provide agile and ever-evolving metaphors for the many dances in life.  Elements are distilled and organized toward coherence and resonance.   I am not seeking for a resolution, only to embrace and honour the bonds that make us one.
