Amelia Johnson Contemporary presents a curated exhibition of small paintings by gallery artists and two newcomers to the gallery’s stable, Gill Rocca and Karen Mead.
The paintings are united by their size alone. Their subjects are representative of the artists’ personal explorations and range from impressionistic landscapes to camper vans and beautiful studys of birds. Artists and their patrons throughout history have embraced the tradition of miniature painting for varying social, religious and cultural purposes. This exhibition is inspired by the aesthetic significance that miniatures evoke and endeavors to draw the focus of the artist and their viewers to a subject or image within the allotted space of 19 x 24 centimeters, more widely recognized as the size of an iPad.
This exhibition features works by a group of international artists living and working in Hong Kong and abroad. A handful of the artists are known for their small paintings while others have created small works specifically for this show.
Featured artists: Konstantin Bessmertny, David Fraser, Karen Mead, Gill Rocca, David Smith, Datsun Tran and Wong Kai Kin.
