Amelia Johnson Contemporary is delighted to present a themed exhibition by the award winning Hong Kong artist, Tang Kwok Hin. “I Call you Nancy” is an installation based on the life of the artist’s fictitious sister. Using video and collage as mediums, Tang Kwok Hin weaves together 25 years of poignant memories to create a life for a sister he never knew. The artist draws inspiration from images commonly associated with the ‘ideal family’ and popularized by contemporary culture, film and media. Hin uses Hong Kong, its local people, natural landscape, landmarks and institutions as inspiration to construct beautiful, carefully layered works with poetic undertones. The artist has devised this installation not to draw attention to his own memories and experiences but uses personal elements to construct a carefully curated context that draws the viewer inward and invites them to reflect on their own history, experiences and memories. These tiered glass and Perspex pieces of art will allow guests and viewers a peek into Nancy’s life.
