Marc STANDING biography | artworks | events

My interest in the human condition is a strong motivating force behind the majority of my practice. In this work on paper, the adolescent and our notion of childhood provides a vehicle in which to portray our vulnerability and awkwardness. It is a time of metamorphosis where we balance on a tightrope of fragile volatility. It can be a time of isolation and disloca- tion, and of fears and nightmares.

The incorporation of craft based techniques of stitching; collage and glitter highlight the idea of domesticity and childhood. A tension is also created between the shiny, playful glitter effect and what hovers above the surface of the paper. 1976 Born, Harare, Zimbabwe.
