|
| by 10 Chancery Lane Gallery Location: 10 Chancery Lane Gallery, Central and 10 Chancery Lane Gallery - Art Projects, Chai Wan
Date: 12 Feb - 26 Apr 2009
10 Chancery Lane Gallery presents Forever Until Now, a group show of new artworks from Cambodia’s established and emerging artists. This groundbreaking group show provides for the first time a complete overview of work of contemporary art in today’s Cambodia. The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, film and photography and explores the human condition from the unique perspective of modern Khmer culture. This culture, derived from a reverence for the traditions of the Golden Age of the ancient Angkor period combined with an understanding and direct experience of the horrific turbulence of the recent past resonates in all of the artists’ works and is reflected in the theme “Forever Until Now”. The show, over a year in the making is the culmination of efforts by Phnom Penh based curator Erin Gleeson, whose strength lies in her depth of knowledge of Cambodia’s visual arts culture and her relationships with the artists involved. The exhibition is divided between the emerging artists and the established older artists whose work is directly influenced by experiences of the tyranny of the Khmer Rouge’s rule. The artists exhibiting are: Chan Dany, Svay Ken, Vann Nath, Rithy Pahn, Sopheap Pich,Vandy Rattana, Khvay Samnang, Duong Saree, Em Satya, Sorn Setpheap Than Sok.
