Carol Lee’s works by time do not only record images of objects but also record the shadow of objects. The images on newsprint are virtual images and through their lack of detail contain delicate outlines akin to shadows. These unreal images devise an illusionary story of poetic expression written on the surface of the “time-painting.” The process of portraying or capturing time through sunlight is a chance situation, the image that is created by time and sunlight can also fadeaway after the object is removed from the newsprint. It is a reincarnation. It will enter into an everlasting journey of contingency and transmigration. “Time and light are piled with contradictions and bewilderment; reconstruction and destruction become inseparable, the ever-flowing journey of the beginning and the end of life, until it reaches the otherness of eternity.”
