“Gallery by the Harbour” will present the works of Hong Kong artist Tam Cheuk-man from 24 Feb to 9 Mar 2011.
The fine art programme taken by Tam a few years ago provided inspiration for him to create CHEAPMAN, a character that allows him to express his personal thoughts. The paintings with CHEAPMAN as the central figure are all colourful and lively works.
In the last four years, Tam combined text, painting and photography in his works, which were showed in a number of solo and joint exhibitions in Hong Kong, Tokyo, Taipei and Australia. In 2009, he received “The First Annual Chinese Area Best Brand Award for Illustration” and “Chinese Area Best Creative Illustration Award” Award of Excellence.
In the early summer of 2010, Tam started to develop a new series titled “Calmness”, which is of a clean and simple style in contrast with his past works. The works of this series, centred around the story of a little monk, were showed in the exhibitions “Calmness” and “Carefree Days” held in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and have won great acclaim. This spring, the little monk of the “Calmness” series will meet the audience again and share with us his way of finding happiness in life. Let us find in those small frames the truth of enjoying life with a peaceful state of mind.
