Chocolate World Heritage
by Gallery by the Harbour
Location: Gallery by the Harbour
Artist(s): Della VECCHIA
Date: 21 Jan - 20 Feb 2011

Chocolate remains the irresistible dessert delicacy. As we dive into 2011, Harbour City prolongs the pleasure by proudly presenting the second “Chocolate Trail”. Here the art of Chocolate transcends space and time to reach into the realms of contemporary fashion design and world cultural heritage. Creators stretched their imaginations, as fashion designers sketched new styles to the theme of chocolate, while pà‚tissiers emerged from their bakeries with dainty fashion accessories and gowns that literally melt in your mouth. Others turned to architecture in order to build miniature chocolate versions of world heritage sites. From 20 Jan to 20 Feb 2011, Harbour City cordially invites you to embark on a chocolate journey for a tastefully tasty experience!

“Gallery by the Harbour” is pleased to collaborate with renowned Italian chocolatier Mirco Della Vecchia in presenting “Chocolate World Heritage” Exhibition within the period of 21st January to 20th February 2011. Mirco della Vecchia is the Guinness World Record Holder in making the world’s heaviest, tallest and largest chocolate sculptures in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He has been named winner in many international pastry and chocolate-making competitions. Master Della Vecchia has carved 13 pieces of world famous monuments with dark and milk chocolate, such as the Arc de Triomphe in France, the Colosseum in Italy, the Great Wall in China, the Statue of Liberty in U.S.A and the Abu Simbel in Egypt, the Himeji Castle in Japan etc.

Master Della Vecchia skilfully and meticulously handcrafted the monuments with the application of a special carving technique from Belluno, a province in northern Italy renowned for fine wood carving. However, unlike wood, chocolate, as an art medium, is extremely delicate and very difficult to handle. Steady temperature and humidity levels are of utmost importance.

Among all the world famous heritage monuments, Master Della Vecchia finally selected about 13 pieces which he likes the most from different countries. The selection process to him was actually a very difficult one. He thinks each monument carries some specific symbolic and legendary meanings, reflecting the architectural and the historical significance of its place.

You can enjoy the chocolate art pieces as well as a heritage tour at once at “Chocolate World Heritage” Exhibition. Master Della Vecchia will be in town for preparation from January 17 to 20. Media interview is welcomed. Besides, there will be live chocolate carving performance during weekend.
