‘A TOUCH of Russian Art’ Exhibition
by Gallery by the Harbour
Location: Gallery by the Harbour
Date: 6 Mar - 31 Mar 2009

A Thousand Miles ... A Thousand Words: A TOUCH of Russian Art Exhibition

Russia, a country thousands miles away from Hong Kong; a nation where art and music has fairly long history, has undergone a cultural revolution, from the emergence in 1930s and the Renaissance of Russian vanguard in 1960’s to a breaking record of $40 million for Russian Contemporary Art in Sotheby at New York in 2008. Russia has emerged as one of the major art markets in Asia in just a few years time. In order to allow Hong Kong people to experience the Russian culture and art thousands mile away from Hong Kong, ArtLinks Asia, in cooperation with Harbour City’s Gallery by the Harbour, is going to present a series of art pieces from 5 Russian Contemporary Artists from 6 to 31 March 2009, to allow a “TOUCH” of Russian Art in Hong Kong.

The “TOUCH” of Art doest not necessarily means a physical touch. By presenting art pieces in a variety of mediums and subjects, the exhibition allows the appreciators to enrich their knowledge of Russian through VISUAL paintings, as well as MUSIC. Famous Artist Michelangelo once said, “good painting is a music and a melody which intellect only can appreciate, and with great difficulty.” With the listening of music, appreciators can easily step into the realm of Art and enjoy the total experience of Arts, in a broader sense. In the upcoming exhibition, the visual and auditory senses of appreciators are motivated by the motif of VIOLIN in Novikov Juri’s painting and the dulcet Russian music, and entered into the mysterious world of Russian Art:

Opening Ceremony:
Date: 6 March 2009
Time:6 pm – 8 pm

To support the mission of ‘Art without Boundaries’, ArtLinks Asia will donate* the painting ‘Violin’ by Novikov Juri to PMA Music Foundation at the charity auction.

Music Performance by PMA Music Foundation’s Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong (MYO) on Russian Music at the opening Ceremony.
