A Memory in Glass by Sara Tin
by Gallery by the Harbour
Location: Gallery by the Harbour
Date: 19 Feb - 3 Mar 2009

Europe is a heart-throbbing land of aesthetics which has inspired the great work of many artists. There are sculptures, poems, travelogues and since a century ago, photo dedicated to the beauty of its landscape, the sophistication of its cultures and the hybridity of its people, traditions, customs and arts. Sara Tin’s artistic adventure in Europe was recorded in her first photo exhibitions “European Monolog”, in which she invited us to a visual journey in Europe. European Monolog II is an extension of the previous collection, in consistent with Sara’s poetic style.

Sara’s photos of “European Monolog” were interspersed with captions eloquently written during the journey. The dialogue between European images and Chinese words lends a unique sense of poetic elegance to commonplace objects, something as ordinary as a street lamp, an old tree, a lump of colors, or something as amazing as a chair encircled by a maze of grass in a historic abbey, the projection of an old building on a giant poster; Sara noticed and captured in her photos, the poetic and primitive beauty, of these very details of everyday life which travelers going for famous sightseeing spots would pass by but overlook. We followed through Sara’s footstep from the bottom of the Eiffel Tower to the glass harper Alexander Zoltana’s wine glasses on Charles Bridge. From the quiet countryside in South England to the busy metro station in Prague, Sara brought us along to travel, to see and feel with her, the beautiful imageries suspended amidst their instants.

Sara Tin was born in China. Apart from her intrinsic love for Chinese literature, she is also fascinated by European culture. A passionate traveler and writer, she has acquired award in HK Literature Festival – Travel Writing. After completing MA in Journalism of CUHK in 2004, Sara read The Arts and Intercultural Studies in UK, and at the same time, the passionate traveler began her “European Monolog”. Sara loves poem and colors, and is a faithful follower of primitive beauty and the heart, which brings her creative experience. The first exhibitions of “European Monolog” were launched in 2007. After that she went for a second round in Europe, wandering alone in Budapest, Granada, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Wien, Heiderberg and Venice etc to complete the sequel of “European Monolog”.

State-of-the-Arts Gallery & Gallery by the Harbour is very honored to present to you the ‘A Memory in Glass’ collection by the renowned Hong Kong artist, Miss Sara Tin. We hope that, through this highly collectable series of art works, viewers are able to open their eyes to a new scope of art.
