La Città del Mondo
by Gallery by the Harbour
Location: Gallery by the Harbour
Artist(s): Massimo CRUCIANI
Date: 10 Apr - 28 Apr 2010

Harbour City’s Gallery by the Harbour is pleased to announce its collaboration with Yan’s World to present “La Città del Mondo” Glass painting and Photography exhibition by renowned Italian artist Massimo Cruciani from 10th to 28th April. This is also the debut of Cruciani’s World Tour Project, featuring his unique glass art and captivating photography at the same time.

Cruciani has specially honored Hong Kong as the first city of the World Tour; he will visit Hong Kong and meet different media from 9th to 13th April 2010.

Born in Rome in 1946, Cruciani became a professional photographer at the age of 20. Extensive travel experiences and life-long experiments on different art forms have made Cruciani famous for conveying world scenes into both glass painting and photography. With the technique he has acquired as a photographer, Cruciani is able to combine filming and composition skills with free flowing imagination. His photograph are gentle, subtle yet deeply captivating, whereas his glass arts are often filled with layers of vivid colors as Cruciani has developed special pigments with acrylic and other chemicals to achieve the “watercolor” texture. The misty-toned colors, amorphous shapes, and the transparency of the medium have created variations of light and shadows for his picturesque paintings. In addition, “Mirror Painting” technique is undoubtedly more difficult than traditional paint methods as it requires the artist to reverse the plotted image throughout the whole painting process.

In this World Tour debut, more than 8 limited edition black and white photos on world scenes, some of them were even shot since 1967, will be displayed, each photo is numbered and signed by Cruciani. On glass painting, apart from Cruciani’s signature subjects like floral, and medieval themes, 25-30 new glass works featuring scenes from 5 continents are all exhibited for the first time worldwide, every piece is the one and only one piece. In which, two paintings titling “La Città del Mondo” (one in round shape and the other in horizontal) have highlighted the most famous landmarks of the World, these two paintings are specially made to celebrate the commencement of this very exciting World Tour project.

In short, both art forms perfectly reflect Cruciani’s truth sense, and are exceptionally valuable for art fans and collectors.

The beauty of Cruciani’s work is recognized worldwide with thousands of international art lovers, collectors, and Museum curators including Hunter (Patch) Adams, and Mr Bernie Eccleston the King of the Formula One. In October 1997, the late Pope John Paul II received Cruciani at a public meeting, accepting his glass painting entitled “Francesco” for the Vatican Contemporary Art Museum.
