Turning Heads
by Gallery by the Harbour
Location: Gallery by the Harbour
Artist(s): Bryan ELLERY, YIN Xin, John STEWART
Date: 20 Oct - 6 Nov 2011

“Gallery by the Harbour” and Galerie Huit are proud to present Turning Heads, Group Exhibition of European Artists from 20 October – 6 November 2011. Three exciting artists, Bryan Ellery, John Stewart and Yin Xin, come together in one exhibition, each with a vastly different expression of their individual medium, each creatively and uniquely diverse. Each from equally different backgrounds and environments, yet united by a single purpose: to share their artistic vision with a global audience. All four are bound by the seamless thread of living in Europe.

About the exhibiting artists British sculptor Bryan Ellery turns heads – literally – with his perceptive and empathic portraits in bronze. Fascinated by the face, he finds unlimited opportunity to express his passion with sculptures of many of Asia’s best‐known personalities, from Chief Executive Donald Tsang to businessmen David Tang. He is especially renowned for his charming and insightful likenesses of children.

Still life photographer John Stewart was born in London in 1919, and raised in Paris, where he now lives. His classic still life works bring a soothing sense of calm to untranquil surroundings, with his exquisite snatched moments from life. Every piece demonstrates the sensitivity that comes from keen observation of textiles, flowers and man‐made objects often overlooked or discarded by the casual eye.

Contemporary artist Yin Xin’s enigmatic style is hard to capture in words. Rich in wit, charm and humour, his paintings are multi‐layered snapshots of life from another era, often colonial Shanghai, his favourite period. Born in Kashgar, Turkistan, Western China in 1939, he now lives in Paris and paints portraits and groups, airplanes: whatever captures his fertile imagination.
