The Language and Temperature within Paintings
by Gallery by the Harbour
Location: Gallery by the Harbour
Artist(s): Yolanda PONG
Date: 14 Jul - 31 Jul 2011

“Gallery by the Harbour” is going to present “2011 Art Exhibition of Yolanda Pong — The Language and Temperature within Paintings” from 14-31 July 2011. This is going to be Taiwanese artist Yolanda Pong’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. In Pong’s works, the non-figurative signs, color patches, objects, and media are used to construct and interweave an imaginative space, on which personal feelings and memories are inscribed by her interaction with the elements. Yolanda will be in town and welcome to have interview from 12 July 2011.

Using linear time as the principle axis of my exhibitions in recent years, Yolanda has put on exhibit the works made in each time frame of a period of three to four years. If a single work is an expression of the artist’s perspective at the time he or she made it, the body of works, made in different periods, and of different sizes and narrative approaches, when dispersed in an irregular order, will hopefully render a visual language along a temporal dimension. Furthermore, these works, exhibited in different places by different classifications and ways of arrangement, will manifest a “reduction” or “proliferation” among different groups, like the growth and withering of a living body. By presenting Yolanda’s works in different ways, she hopes to not only display many different pieces to the audience, but to also introduce her works as a large-scale production with the features of reduction, proliferation, and interaction. These works can be seen as a single entity, as well as fragments of a body or length of history, among which the interstices are a matter of process and the flow of time.

Graduated from National Taiwan College of Arts and later take Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Fontbonne University. She has held exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Taiwan and other places, works of widely collection, including the China Art Gallery, Toronto Museum of Modern Art and so on. She is now a lecturer of National Taiwan University of Arts and National Taipei University of Technology. Recently, she host a show in the Discovery channel's Travel & Living (TLC), which has shortlisted for Taiwan's Golden Bell Award, with two nominations of best overall class program and best host, and won the Best host Award.
