Organised by internationally renowned curator Fumio Nanjo, Popping Up draws together thirteen celebrated Asian artists, architects and fashion designers to explore the relationship between 2D and 3D in contemporary art. The exhibition features a diverse selection of new and original artworks including soft sculptures, 3D paper sculptures, mixed media painting objects, digital visual and audio installations, public art, etc. By showcasing the ways artists of the new generation altering the form of materials and creating new dimensions of art, we will witness new possibilities of transforming between 2D materials and 3D constructions as well as the underlying contradictions. Undoubtedly, this exhibition will present us innovative and unique views from Asian contemporary artists on top of the conventional discussions about the construction of illusions on a 2D surface.
The exhibition also focuses on the connection between art and life. As most of the materials used in the exhibiting artworks can be easily found in daily life, the event conveys the message that art is everywhere as well as illustrating the sense of familiarity evoked by contemporary Asian art.
The internationally recognised French jeweller, Van Cleef & Arpels will also present its new jewellery collection – Perlee, in the exhibition venue. The jewellery pieces are appreciated as a form of art, functioning as another example of combining art with life on top of architecture and fashion.
Opening hours: 10 am to 8 pm
