Gotta Be Free
by Plum Blossoms Gallery
Location: Plum Blossoms Gallery
Date: 19 May - 2 Jun 2011

Plum Blossoms Gallery brings together some of the world’s rising talents and leading artists in “Gotta Be Free”, a group exhibition of painting, photography and sculpture encompassing a diverse array of voices and ideas connected by an engagement with international Pop Art traditions.

Featuring exciting artists from China (Wang Qingsong, Qin Fengling, Wang Luyan, Wang Lei, Zhu Wei), Japan (Chinatsu Ban), Korea (Osang Gwon), Iran (Kamrooz Aram), India (Thukral & Tagra, Jitish Kallat, George Martin P.J.) and USA (Brenda Zlamany), “Gotta Be Free” places their creations in juxtaposition with iconic works by masters in the Pop Art movement - Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Each artist comments and critiques our contemporary world in his or her own way and the results are bold, imaginative and unique artworks that speak fluently of their own particular histories, cultures and the increasingly connected world in which we live in.

The title of the exhibition “Gotta Be Free” is drawn from The Beatles 1969 song "Come Together", initially inspired by the father of LSD Timothy Leary and speaks to the dream-like and psychedelic aspects of many works in this exhibition.  Like the spirit in the song, we invite everyone to let go of pre-established cogitation, and challenge their own instilled perspectives of the contemporary world and the future that lies ahead.

Exhibition Opening Date: 19th May 2011 (Thursday) 6:00-8:30pm
