Lehmann Maupin will be participating at Art Basel Hong Kong 2013, with a presentation of works by Hernan Bas, Gordon Cheung, Tracey Emin, Lee Bul, Liu Wei, Mr., Angel Otero, Tony Oursler, Robin Rhode, Jennifer Steinkamp, Do Ho Suh, and Mickalene Thomas.
Among the booth's highlights are a selection of embroideries, paintings, works on paper and a neon by Tracey Emin, whose two-venue exhibition is currently on view at Lehmann Maupin's New York galleries and who will be the subject of her first US solo museum exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami in December 2013; ready-made wall sculptures of found wooden doors by Liu Wei, part of the artist's "Exotic Lands" series, which was recently featured at the Sharjah Biennial 11; a monumental and vibrant painting by Japanese artist Mr.; new paintings by Angel Otero, whose first large-scale solo exhibition in China is on view at SCAD Hong Kong from 20 May – 23 August; and Tony Oursler’s freestanding video sculptures of fantastical, microcosmic scenes animated with a synthesis of performance and sound.
Coinciding with the gallery's participation in Art Basel in Hong Kong, Lehmann Maupin will open a group exhibition at it's newly-inaugurated exhibition space in the Pedder Building on Tuesday, 21 May. Organized by renowned international curator, Hervé Mikaeloff, Writings Without Borders explores the various manifestations and functions of language as it appears in artistic expression throughout Eastern and Western cultures. The show will include a wide range of work by eleven artists, including Tracey Emin, Teresita Fernández, He An, Shirazeh Houshiary, Idris Khan, Barbara Kruger, Eko Nugroho, Pak Sheung Chuen, Robin Rhode, Tsang Kin-wah, and Zheng Guogu.
