hardneck.hk presents Artist Fee, a project by Hong Kong conceptual artist LAM Hoi Sin. The concept shop runs a waste-utilising cause and generates its own funds, the project welcomes donations of second-hand and spare items. Things are gathered and redistributed as giveaways and recycled goods, whilst some are used for artwork production. The title suggests how the artist makes her living and play up the fact that artists in Hong Kong rarely get a fee for their labour. As an experimental platform, Artist Fee is ending after three months of stationing in Foo Tak Building.
The closing exhibition, subtitled as “The Crap Show”, will display Lam’s work-in-progress primarily made from donated materials. Consisting mainly of readymades and altered objects, the exhibition will be a semi-parody of the contemporary art scene as presented in the media, revolving around unique, mishaps, mass-produced kitsch and found images. “Crap” is a literal theme for the contents that are made from waste; ironically it is what some may consider as the face of contemporary art now.
