Timepieces: Celebrating a Decade
by Opera Gallery
Location: Opera Gallery
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 13 Nov - 10 Dec 2014

2014 marks Opera Gallery’s 20th global anniversary as well as its 10th anniversary in Hong Kong, the pearl of Asia. To celebrate this milestone, Opera Gallery is presenting an exceptional exhibition at their Hong Kong flagship space on 52 Wyndham Street from November 13th to December 10th, 2014.  The collection to be showcased on three floors of its Central location include more than fifty works of art valued over 200 million Hong Kong dollars from the likes of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, to contemporary icons Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Julian Opie, Fernando Botero and Chu Teh-Chun.

First established in 1994 as a local French gallery operating with hubs in Paris and Singapore, Opera Gallery has grown to become an international network of ten galleries with locations from Monaco to Dubai and Geneva to Seoul.  The gallery is known today to be a world destination for exquisite collectors and art lovers alike.

In addition to featuring works by great masters of the past century, the diverse collection featured in Timepieces is also a magnificent showcase of the gallery’s eclectic and revitalized profile of highly coveted international contemporary and modern masterpieces – specialties the gallery is best known for.  Highlighted work ofthe exhibition includes Renoir's almost century old Deux filles dans un pré (Deux femmes dans l'herbe), painted circa 1910. Here, Renoir paints a scene of rustic bliss with an insistent abundance of flowers and flesh, revealing the painter's clear associations between rural life and femininity with health and happiness - his use of femininity to suggest all the comforts and pleasures of a carefree life filled with friendship and intimacy.

Offering a truly unique experience to its visitors, collectors and admirers, the gallery works relentlessly to bring the most exciting exhibitions, artists and artworks to the region, bridging time and place through exceptional showcases of art.

Exhibiting over 60 exhibitions in its global calendar and showcasing over 100 artists, Opera Gallery’s worldwide collection includes a diversity of emerging artists in the fields of new media, photography and installation as well as established artists from both the contemporary and 20th century eras in the fields of painting, sculpture and design. Through Timepieces, visitors can step back and revisit Opera Gallery Hong Kong's historical exhibitions, acknowledge its achievements and review its milestones in its continued position as one of the best international galleries in the world.
