Femme Fatale
by Opera Gallery
Location: Opera Gallery
Artist(s): LORIOZ Jeanne, GAUTIER Marie Madeleine
Date: 8 May - 22 May 2009

Opera Gallery is celebrating springtime with a sensual extravaganza of body and curves. Every piece, painting or sculpture on display is of a woman form in full or partial nude. Seductive playful and humorous this show will put a smile and giggles on all its viewers!

For the opening night Opera Gallery founder and chairman Mr. Gilles Dyan will be visiting Hong Kong and available for interviews on the expansion of the group to new locations (Geneva, Dubai and Monaco in past 12 months) and his insight on why now is the best time to collect art despite the recession.

LORIOZ Jeanne
Lorioz was born in France in 1954 and received her art diploma from "Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués" in Paris.
Her work depicts such round beauties in daily moments that are both trivial and capricious; they chirp, pamper themselves, squabble, do their tasks, question themselves, contemplate the world…and sleep! The graces of Jeanne Lorioz populate her pictorial universe with sensuality and humor. By their sculptural dances and poses, her figures proudly present themselves to the onlooker’s amused eye, so many new goddesses…our very own Callipygian Venuses from the 21st century!

But their extraordinary anatomy sometimes change into marvelously gluttonous objects…with Epicureanism and impertinence, Jeanne Lorioz pays tribute to the weaker sex’s joie the vivre, it’s maternal bountifulness and friendly generosity.

GAUTIER Marie-Madeleine
Gautier was born in France in 1956 and studied in the school of Fine Arts in Paris.

Gautier believes in the language of the body, being convinced that the shape of the body has a strong expressive power, and all her work is based on this idea. She represents calm and peaceful personages, shown most of the time in an every day life attitude. Her works are sincere, full of sensitiveness, and absolutely poetic. She extends the shapes, represents her personages with a little tiny head, creates some sculptures with extreme feminine forms full of curves and sensual shapes...

Gautier creates mainly feminine personages, very round and very "fertile" and yet light because she likes to represent them in extended shape, long and graceful. She prefers the smooth texture, which together with the round shapes, invite the spectator to touch the sculptors and stroke them.

The artists with whom we can compare Gautier works are the greatest sculptors from this century: Giacometti for her long and stretched personages and Henry Moore for the smooth and round aspect.
